Standing 23 feet tall, the mesh portrait Laura floats weightlessly in a pool of water in front of the Fairmont Century Plaza. A celebrated project of internationally renowned Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, one of the world’s foremost sculptors, Laura brings viewers closer to the dream of touching the infinite. The pool both reflects Laura back upon herself and integrates water–an essential element central in LA’s oceanside identity yet rare in urban spaces–creating a deeper moment of tranquility.
Our History
Century City was conceived as “a city within a city” with the arc-shaped, 19-story, 750-room Minoru Yamasaki-designed Century Plaza as its centerpiece. Designed and marketed as the “World’s Most Beautiful Hotel,” the hotel was known at the time for its many modern features.
